The Role: Tax Manager 
Due to our approaching demerger from the Travis Perkins Group and creation of Wickes PLC we have a newly created role for a Tax Manager who will take responsibility for compliance with tax legislation and regulations in respect of corporation tax, VAT, Custom Duty and payroll taxes, including the implementation of a tax strategy, policies, procedures and controls to drive tax efficiency and reporting. 

Key Accountabilities: Tax Manager 
  • Deliver a full range of tax filings and payments in line with laws and regulations within specified timeframes. Implement a tax calendar and ensure the business is prepared to deliver requirements on time. 
  • Lead an efficient tax provisioning process for external reporting, including reconciliation of all tax balances on the ledger. This will include current and deferred tax balances in addition to VAT and payroll tax creditor
  • Build relationships within the business and with advisors to obtain a better understanding of the company’s activities and more effective consultations with experts
  • Implement a strategy to effectively manage the long term tax burden on the company, including the identification and mitigation of risks
  • Coordinate staff and provide training and feedback as required
  • Manage communications with HMRC, including coordination of the annual SAO process and any tax audits
  • Work with Travis Perkins tax team to understand historic submissions (Corporation tax, VAT and payroll taxes) and accounting tax provisions and balances. Identify potential risks and opportunities in respect of all taxes
  • Implement tax policies, processes and controls to provide assurance over tax information and compliance with SAO and Corporate Criminal Offence legislation 

Skills & Experience: Tax Manager

  • ACA qualified, ideally with a tax or treasury qualification
  • 5 years + pqe along with broad finance experience from within a listed PLC
  • Thorough understanding and experience of all aspects of leading a Tax team within a PLC
  • Knowledge of tax laws and regulations
  • Best practice approach to tax management Ability to strongly influence and challenge in a constructive/engaging manner at Board and Senior Management level
  • Team leadership and development
