Joining our newly formed Digital Technology team and working closely with our Head of Engineering, you’ll establish the technology roadmap for our Stores but also the wider Wickes technology, such as DevXP.  You’ll be responsible for driving innovation and delivery of technology for our store colleagues, ultimately providing a better service to our customers, with a strong focus on in-store technology, including in-store operations, inventory management, and point-of-sale systems.

This role will be critical to the success of Wickes business as we embark on a 5 year transformation journey. Transforming the store's technology and infrastructure to support multiple channels is central to the success of Wickes.

The Role:
  • You’ll lead the development of all of the Digital Store workstreams and set the standard for technical excellence and innovation in the realm of in-store experience technology. Driving the strategic direction of technology that enhances both colleague and customer interactions.
  • Lead the design, development, and deployment of cutting-edge technologies that elevate the in-store experience and champion the introduction and rollout of solutions to greatly improve the experience for colleagues and customers.
  • Building strong relationships quickly you will collaborate and work closely with cross-functional teams to translate customer-centric ideas into technical solutions that drive foot traffic, customer engagement, and loyalty.
  • Working closely with out Architecture teams to develop and maintain a robust, scalable, and forward-looking technical architecture that supports in-store technology initiatives while ensuring data security, reliability, and scalability.
  • Familiarity with retail systems and technologies is advantageous, such as point-of-sale (POS), inventory management, e-commerce platforms and customer relationship management (CRM) systems.

Does this sound like you?
  • Extensive experience in technical leadership roles with a strong hands on technical experience of React and Android and knowledge of both hardware and software.
  • Strong knowledge of performance optimization techniques and tools for web applications and experience with version control systems, such as Git, and familiarity with modern build tools and workflows (Webpack, Babel, etc.).
  • Deep understanding of RESTful APIs and experience integrating front-end applications with back-end services.
  • Proven expertise in designing and implementing technology solutions that enhance both colleague and customer experiences.
  • A software engineering background with hands-on experience of developing and releasing software from inception to rollout.
