We’re looking for a Sustainability Manager to join our team on a fixed term contract for 12 months to cover maternity leave. As part of our Legal and Sustainability team, this role is all about helping us to achieve our ESG targets and sustainability ambitions. You’ll support Wickes’ journey to a Net Zero business, and work with a variety of stakeholders and teams to deliver operational improvements, build capacity, and engagement.

What you’ll be doing:

Strategy development and implementation: Support the Director of Corporate Sustainability to build and integrate our Responsible Business strategy across the business. Support the implementation and reviews of our Net Zero and Science based targets frameworks. Support Responsible Business Governance, including minutes at the Responsible Business Committee, and actions and decisions at the Climate Steering Group.

EMS: Lead the development, management and maintenance of our ISO14001-aligned Environmental Management System across our business, including stores, distribution centres, installations, and support centre. Work closely with our Health and Safety team to support EHS audits and reporting. Carry out horizon scans of emerging environmental policy and legislation and translate this for the business

Environmental improvement projects: Identify, develop and deliver environmental improvements across the business, including in relation to waste and circular economy, decarbonisation, and nature.

Engagement and capacity building: Collaborate with colleagues across the whole business to drive ESG performance and support disclosures. Develop and deliver learning and development on sustainability and environmental management.  Provide guidance and support to the sustainability employee network to provide learning opportunities across the business and run events to increase engagement on sustainability matters.

Reporting and communications: Support the end of year reporting process across all ESG and sustainability areas, advising on structure, drafting content, including TCFD, and manage the external assurance process. Review and manage the external sustainability communications, including on the website, to respond to external stakeholder needs, including ESG ratings.

Green Claims:  Support the Director of Legal and Governance and Director of Corporate Sustainability by reviewing green claims made by the business, building capacity, and coordinating the Green Claims Committee meetings, in order to meet the Green Claims Code.

What we’re looking for:

You’ll be experienced with in-house sustainability and operational environmental management, preferably ISO14001 with excellent communication skills. You’ll be experienced in Stakeholder management and collaboration and behaviour change with strong project management skills.

You’ll have a good understanding of managing a variety of waste streams and good working knowledge of key reporting frameworks like CDP, TCFD, and Greenhouse Gas reporting, and environmental legislation.

Ideally you’ll have IEMA Associate membership or equivalent. Experience of presenting, delivering training and Sustainability report writing would be advantageous.
