Interested in retail? Spend a week with us on our Head Office Work Experience and see how a national business runs behind the scenes.

The team:
From the tills in our stores to the laptops in our offices, our Tech team makes sure that we  stay connected and secure. In this role, you’ll explore the cutting edge of retail, diving into everything from Cybersecurity and Web Development to AI and Cloud Computing. Technology is what powers our supply chain and our customer service, and you’ll see exactly how we use it to stay one step ahead in the digital age.

You'll learn:
  • How a Tech function operates within a major retail brand.
  • The huge variety of roles available in Tech, from Engineering to Data Management.
  • Why safe and secure systems are the foundations of a successful business.
  • How we use "Smart Tech" and AI to make Wickes better for everyone.
What you’ll do:
  • Explore the future of retail tech, learning how we use AI, Cloud infrastructure, Cyber Security, Stores and eCommerce to stay ahead
  • Shadow experts across the team to see how Product Delivery Managers, Business Analysts, Engineering Managers, Programme Managers and Head of Engineering work together to build great products
  • Sit and collaborate with the Tech Leadership Team on high-level strategy

Who we’re looking for:
What matters most to us is your positive attitude and potential. And you’d need the following:
  • Be 16 years or over
  • A positive energy and you like a fast-paced environment!
  • You’re curious about how business works
  • You’ve got good communication skills
What we offer:
Our work experience is a voluntary placement focused on your personal development. While there is no salary, we’ll cover for your lunch  and travel each day.

Our recruitment process

  1. Apply: Upload your CV and tell us why you’re interested in joining Wickes.
  2. Interview: A short online chat during the week commencing 18 May so we get to know each other better.
  3. Start of your work experience: join us for an action-packed week from Monday 6 to Friday 10 July 2026.
