Wickes is more than just the nation's favourite DIY store. It's a place where we'll ask for your ideas, listen to your opinions and value the contributions you make. Chances are you've never experienced anything quite like our culture. All our colleagues come from different backgrounds, but what we all have in common is a determination to succeed and a passion for being the best we can be. If that sounds like you, we'll make you feel right at home.

The role

We have an exciting opportunity for a Data Privacy Paralegal to join our dedicated in-house legal team reporting to our Regulatory Governance Manager. In this role you will be based at our Head Office in Watford (with a requirement to work in the office at least twice a week) and will be responsible for managing Wickes data privacy operations on a day-to-day basis and working with the Regulatory Governance Manager to deliver Wickes’ data privacy and security programme.

You will use your excellent communication skills to build relationships across the business and provide support to the Regulatory Governance Manager on data privacy and compliance matters to mitigate the risks to our business. Tasks will include responding to data subject requests, working with the Infosec team on data protection impact assessments, maintaining the Record of Processing Activity (ROPA), being a key point of contact for any data protection queries arising in the business, responding to customer queries concerning data and managing the GDPR inbox. You may also be asked to support the team with other regulatory compliance initiatives.

What are we looking for?

We are looking for someone with a genuine interest in data privacy. You’ll need to have an eye for detail and ideally some prior experience working cross-functionally. You’ll be a great communicator, with colleagues, customers and suppliers alike, with a positive attitude and a genuine commitment to be the very best you can. You will have a good understanding of data privacy laws, GDPR and how they apply to Wickes. As a minimum, you will have a desire to increase your knowledge of data privacy and have an understanding of how data affects us all as consumers on a daily basis. You will be comfortable building relationships and spending time with colleagues at the support centre, in stores and in distribution.  In addition you will be a ‘hands on’ self-starter and be able to operate at all levels within a fast paced but rewarding environment.

What can we offer you?

This is a great opportunity to come and work with the Wickes legal team. Support and guidance will be given to ensure you are set up for success.

The successful applicant will be part of the journey that the Wickes legal team has started following demerger, both in working with the business to create a great data privacy operation and in building a successful legal team which genuinely supports and partners the business. Flexible working requests will be considered for the successful applicant.

You’ll be supported with fantastic learning and development and have the opportunity to grow and develop your career with us. We also have an early careers network to support you if you’re in your first few years of your career.

We’ll also equip you with a benefits package that includes:

Competitive bonus

Save-as-you-earn scheme

Private Medical and Life Assurance

Contributory pension scheme

Colleague discount

Discount platform including savings and cash back at numerous retailers, savings on gym membership, cycle to work scheme

Our widely recognised wellbeing strategy is something we’re proud of at Wickes. As part of this, we offer a range of health and wellbeing benefits and support, including an Employee Assistance Programme, financial education & loans, and access to parental, menopause and fertility support. #LI-Hybrid
