The role:
Wickes is currently recruiting for an Insurance Business Partner, based in the Company's head office in Watford and reporting into General Counsel and Company Secretary. The successful candidate will play a key role in promoting, supporting, and driving improvements in risk management practices and claims reduction throughout the business, ensuring an appropriate level of insurance cover is in place to meet both legal and business requirements.

Key responsibilities:

Risk management
  • Work alongside safety, fleet, legal, property, commercial, security, and other key stakeholders to identify and evaluate opportunities to continually improve our risk management practices to keep our colleagues and customers safer. 
  • Work with stakeholders to understand the scale and root causes of risk, claims, and unquantified costs.
  • Work with stakeholders to develop and deliver a risk reduction strategy.
  • Monitor developments and innovations in risk management practices and evaluate the potential benefits for Wickes.
Claims management
  • Develop and implement the Wickes claims strategy.
  • Develop meaningful management information to support the development of strategy, cost management, and decision making.
  • Analyse claims to identify opportunities, threats, and trends and ensure the business understands these.
  • Support, educate, and influence the business on claims management and mitigation
  • Manage relationships with third party suppliers and monitor/manage their performance and drive innovation
  • Work with the business and external claims handlers to facilitate the investigation and defence of claims
Insurance broker and renewal
  • Manage the relationship with the Company’s insurance broker and monitor/manage their performance.
  • Lead the annual insurance renewal negotiations, working closely with our broker, insurers, and the business to understand the business risk and optimise the insurance programme
Business support
  • Support the business with all general insurance queries
  • Advise in matters of best practice and compliance

Candidate Requirements
  • Extensive experience of working in an in-house insurance role (industry-relevant experience preferred)
  • Ability to build relationships, engage and influence colleagues and stakeholders at all levels
  • Calm, low ego style
  • Approachable, curious, and resourceful self-starter with total integrity and excellent interpersonal skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to deliver complex messages in a simple and creative way
  • Strong project management, planning, and organisational skills, attention to detail, and accuracy
  • Ability to prioritise, multitask and meet deadlines
  • Commercial outlook and analytical mind with the ability to think broadly on a range of issues and apply sound judgement
