The L&D team at Wickes are looking for an experienced Instructional Designer to join the team. 


We are on a mission to create a continuous learning culture that enables our people to build their future with pride and our business to help the nation to feel house proud. In order to do this, we are looking for an innovative, creative, tech savvy Instructional Designer to help drive and reimagine L&D and how we learn at Wickes. This role will provide a unique opportunity to design distinctive learning experiences, develop clear learning pathways, curate impactful learning content, and help facilitate the implementation of a Learning Management System (LMS).


You will be part of a growing L&D team who will work together and closely partner with the business to deliver on the L&D vision, mission and purpose. 


Reporting into the Learning and Development Manager, the Instructional Designer will be responsible for the following;


  • Managing your own projects, you will have experience of the full design life cycle, from needs analysis through to design.

  • Design learning journeys/experiences, along with content and assets required using a blend of methods and media based on the learning requirement. 

  • Design engaging eLearning content for use on various training modalities including, but not limited to mobile, on-line, LMS platform and via other broad reach vehicles using grounded learning principles. 

  • Ensure content is packaged and delivered in the correct way to the correct audience utilising the LMS and its capabilities. 

  • Ensure evaluation mechanisms are considered and built in as part of the design. 

  • Work and consult with various internal and external stakeholders to  analyse the requirement, define, design content specifications and resolve gaps. 

  • Ensure the implementation of the training is effective and communicated through the appropriate channels partnering with the appropriate teams in the business.

  • Utilise technical and creative skills to develop module concepts and storyboards.

  • Focus on consistency in instructional design, user experience and stakeholder support. Designing end user focused content ensuring appropriate personalisation, Diversity and inclusion principles have been considered.             

  • Utilise appropriate authoring tools to enhance the quality of the eLearning modules with a variety of interactive elements (such as games, quizzes etc.).

  • Integrate learning best practices and thought leadership in Instructional design into concept development. 

  • Work in a fast-paced, constantly changing environment keeping up to date with business priorities and operational areas of focus and developments in training and frequently network to enhance your thinking

  • Produce content on budget whilst addressing changes and feedback to course deliverables in a timely manner, managing own time and roadmap appropriately. 

  • Support the L&D team with design projects that require creative input and development as well as regular run and maintenance of content and the LMS through regular review/maintenance cycles.

 

What you'll need

Must have skills and experience:

  • Experience in eLearning production from concept development through to delivery and implementation.

  • Technical know how such as variables, triggers and java scripts to utilise during creation in Articulate and rise 360

  • Experience in instructional design with an end user focus.

  • Relevant experience working with a variety of stakeholders, Business owners and external partners

  • Experience in LMS architecture, utilising and managing and LMS system

 

Preferred Skills and Qualifications

  • Demonstrated experience with usability principles

  • Knowledge of programming concepts which enhance eLearning creation 

  • Graphic design experience with the following Adobe products: InDesign, Illustrator, Photoshop

  • Experience in audio/narration and video editing 

  • Experience of using the google suite 

  • Experience with Kallidus (LMS) system

  • Design experience with the following products: Articulate Storyline, Rise 360, Camptasia, Kallidus, Google Suite and Adobe Suite

  • Experience in audio/narration and editing
