As part of our Digital Technology team and reporting into our Head of Engineering - Digital Commerce, we have created a new role.  You will play a key role in leading and shaping the front-end development of our ecommerce UI Estate, including the Main Wickes Website. You will be responsible for creating innovative user interfaces, optimising performance, and driving the technical strategy to ensure an exceptional user experience. 

The role will be critical to the success of Wickes business as we embark on a 5 year transformation journey. Transforming the digital technology and infrastructure to support multiple channels is central to the success of Wickes.

The Role:
You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including design, product management, and back-end engineering, to deliver high-quality solutions that meet our business objectives.
  • With solid, effective communication, you will be able to build strong relationships with various stakeholders within the business, including business users, project managers, executives, and cross functional departments. 
  • Leading the front-end development of our ecommerce DIY website, you will ensure the delivery of high-quality, scalable, and performant code.
  • Collaborate with designers to translate UI/UX wireframes and mockups into responsive and interactive web interfaces.
  • In conjunction with the Architecture team, design and develop reusable, modular, and maintainable front-end components and libraries.

  • Does this sound like you?
    Previous experience of working in the Retail sector would be advantageous but not essential.
  • Proven experience as a senior or principal front-end engineer, with a strong focus on web development and ecommerce platforms. 
  • A software engineering background with hands-on experience of developing and releasing software from inception to rollout.
  • Solid understanding of responsive web design principles and experience building mobile-first, cross-browser compatible web applications.
  • Understanding software testing and quality assurance processes. Looking for candidates with experience in defining test strategies, ensuring thorough testing of developed solutions, and maintaining quality standards within the software development lifecycle.
  • You’ll have great interpersonal skills and an ability to build strong relationships at all levels and be able to influence the direction of the web platform.
