Five reasons to work at wickes

Wickes is one of the leading retailers in the UK, and we are dedicated to creating a talented and devoted team to provide the best service to our loyal customers. When you become a Wickes colleague, you become part of our family and no matter your role, you’ll always be given the opportunity to grow and develop, with all the tools, advice and support you need.

The scope and scale of our mission drives us to create an environment where our colleagues can perform at their absolute best and achieve all of their professional goals. Here, we give you five reasons why you should take the next step in your career and join Wickes.

Culture and wellbeing

Here at Wickes, a positive work culture and the wellbeing of our colleagues is a top priority. We know that a positive workplace culture improves teamwork, raises morale, and increases productivity and efficiency. Most importantly, a healthy workplace environment is proven to reduce stress in employees, contributing to a better quality of life.

We are all passionate about what we do and promote a highly supportive environment. Openness and authenticity are our mantras and our values revolve around ensuring everyone feels at home.

Learning and development

At Wickes we know how important learning is.  As our business evolves, we want to make sure our colleagues have the skills & knowledge they need to be successful now and in the future.

We want you to be curious and, because not everyone learns in the same way, you will have access to a number of different learning resources from digital learning modules and handy toolkits to structured development programmes and professional qualifications that will enable you to take control of your learning, and your career development.

We have a wide range of apprenticeships available to support the growth of our colleagues.  They can launch careers, develop role specific skills or support specialist areas of expertise.  Our apprenticeships aren’t just for entry-level roles or for trade-based careers; we’re planning to roll out apprenticeships up to senior leadership level and across a range of functions.

We are also really excited to have just launched our new Leadership Development offer.  The three programmes are underpinned by our Wickes Under One Roof leadership behaviours and are a combination of virtual workshops, face to face sessions, project work, guest speakers and coaching sessions to maximise the individual and group learning experience. They will support the journey of our leaders at critical milestones in their development from their first people management role to becoming future leaders of the business

So wherever your development journey takes you,  we'll be with you, giving you plenty of support and motivation and empowering you to make it your own! !

Reward and recognition

Effective rewards and benefits enable colleagues to share in our success and ensure we are better able to attract, motivate and develop the best talent. We provide well-structured and strategy-aligned rewards and benefits that have been designed to support, engage and motivate colleagues, and meet their financial, emotional and physical wellbeing needs.

Our range of fantastic company benefits are designed around our colleagues’ needs and includes:

  • Competitive bonus,

  • Save-as-you-earn scheme,

  • Contributory pension scheme,

  • Colleague discount,

  • Discount platform including savings and cash back at numerous retailers,

  • Savings on gym membership,

Inclusion and diversity are important to Wickes and when you join us, the first thing you’ll discover is that everyone accepts everyone for who they are. We promote an inclusive workforce culturecelebrate our colleagues and work towards making our teams truly diverse because we know it makes us the best we can be.

We know that in order to accelerate progress and support one another in being the most authentic versions of ourselves, it is necessary to listen to fresh viewpoints, ideas, and experiences. We are not doing it alone; we have the support of dedicated coworkers who want to create a welcoming environment for everyone, whether they work or shop with us.

Since we're not yet ideal, we are working with our sector to promote change and open dialogue. We're continuously looking for ways to improve because we know it's the right thing to do.

Future-focused

Wickes is a future-focused business and colleagues are encouraged to be part of this journey and will also play an integral role in developing the ESG strategy in the future. Our responsible business strategy promotes a multicultural and welcoming society, a protected environment for future generations, and housing that is suitable for a sustainable future for all.

Our method is no exception to the rule that everything is better in threes. At Wickes, doing business responsibly means taking care of our employees and the environment so that we can support environmentally friendly houses that everyone can be proud of. These pillars fulfil our ESG goals and criteria while supporting all facets of economic, social, and environmental sustainability.
