We’re looking for a Front End Web Developer to join our Digital Marketing team.

Wickes is a digitally led, service enabled business currently undergoing extensive digital transformation. We’re looking for a skilled and enthusiastic Front End Developer to join us and help in supporting our journey. 


What will I be doing?

You'll be responsible for developing new customer-facing features across the Wickes suite of platforms; determining the structure of elements and pages following designs provided by the Digital Design team, updating key areas of the site(s) and optimising page load times. 

The role will sit within the Digital Experience Team reporting to the Senior Digital Experience Manager. You’ll work cross functionally with other teams in Digital, including the Digital Development; Digital Marketing & CRM and Trading teams, whilst working with other stakeholders in our Marketing, IT and Operations functions. 


Your main responsibilities will include: 

  • Responsible for the ownership and day to day management of the front end of the website(s) 

  • Maintain and improve website(s) (and apps. where applicable) 

  • Optimise all applications for maximum performance and speed (CWV-focused) 

  • Ongoing collaboration with IT and Digital colleagues to ensure the site is maintained and connected to broader systems in our tech stack 

  • Collaborate with back-end developers and designers to improve usability

  • Collaborate with back-end developers to support coding and troubleshooting

  • Collaborate with Digital Development team and IT team to support coding and troubleshooting

  • Write and maintain functional requirement documents and guides

  • Creation of prototypes for stakeholder review and feedback 

  • Ensure high quality graphic standards and brand consistency

  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies


What are we looking for?

You’ll be an experienced front end developer, with hands-on operational experience supporting and delivering business requirements. A confident communicator and collaborative team player who is looking to work with a successful team would be very welcome. You’ll also be: 

  • Proficient in all markup languages; including JavaScript, VueJs, CSS and jQuery

  • Experienced working with IT and development teams (both in-house and off-shore), utilising project management tools such as Jira and Trello 

  • Familiar with software like Adobe Suite, Photoshop and content management systems

  • Familiar with browser testing and debugging

  • Able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the entire web development process 

  • Understanding of layout aesthetics

  • Knowledgeable  of SEO principles ideally

  • Able to build strong relationships and manage your stakeholder groups

  • Proficiency in the use of the  ContentStack CMS,  Hybris platform, and Cloudinary is preferred
