In this key senior finance role you’ll be delivering high quality external and technical reporting, providing support to the wider Finance team and Wickes business to help ensure a smooth, efficient running of the central Finance function, along with appropriate controls.
What you’ll be doing:
Deliver financial statements for interim and full year reporting, in compliance with IFRS and best practice. This will involve producing a detailed timetable and task plan and coordinating teams within and outside of finance, and producing significant sections of the Annual Report including the Viability Statement
Manage relationships with external auditors, including project management of half year and full year reporting, ensuring emerging issues are addressed and deadlines achieved. Draft high quality papers for Audit & Risk Committee throughout the year
Critically review all monthly balance sheet reconciliations, ensuring high quality outcomes and driving continuous improvement
Lead technical and complex accounting areas and produce board papers to present conclusions, including but not limited to going concern, impairment, share based payments and provisions
Manage team responsible for maintaining the Fixed Assets ledger, as well as IFRS 16 liabilities and right of use assets. Provide effective finance business partnering on capital projects
Responsibility for Netsuite general ledger chart of accounts, processes and controls, including journal approvals and delegation of authority, and approval of changes to these. Key stakeholder in future developments to Netsuite functionality including general ledger functionality and fixed assets module.
Lead training programmes for analysts across the finance function
Maintain an accounting policies and procedures manual. Provide ad hoc technical support across the department to address emerging technical and reporting complexities
What we’re looking for:
Ideally you’ll have an audit background and be ACA qualified. You’ll have a broad finance background as well as in-depth experience within a reporting role and extensive knowledge of listed plc reporting. As well as this you’ll:
Be able to promote strong/sound control environments
Have the ability to communicate technically challenging issues in a simple yet effective and engaging manner at Board level
Demonstrate strong team leadership and development
Have a strong project management mindset, with acute focus on deadlines
Possess a thorough understanding of accounting standards and developments
Have a best practice approach to financial reporting
Be diligent in the detail, focused on promoting/driving sound principles of control
Be well organised, flexible and responsive to competing priorities
