Wickes are a leading multichannel retailer and we are looking for a Head of Tax on a fixed term contract to join our established team. We're looking for this to start from the beginning of January 2023 for a period of 6 months. Following our transformation into a standalone PLC business, you'll lead on tax compliance and further develop our policies and processes both in compliance and reporting alongside engaging and educating the wider business.


Activities within the role are varied and include:

  • Day-to-day responsibility for effective tax management in conjunction with business objectives, implementing the long term tax strategy for the business
  • Delivery of tax information, audited external reporting to strict deadlines 
  • Compliance with regulatory requirements from an accounting and tax perspective
  • Maintaining and developing influential relationships across the organisation with key interactions expected with teams across HR, Reporting & Control, Planning & Analysis and Supply Chain
  • Maintaining strong working relationships externally - key interactions expected with external auditors, HMRC and tax advisors

You will bring


You will be qualified (ACA / ACCA / CIMA / CTA ) with thorough and up to date knowledge of tax laws and regulations across UK VAT and UK Corporation Tax, ideally within a listed PLC environment.  Strong technical expertise is essential in either Corporate Tax reporting or VAT, with some practical experience of the other, along with Corporation Tax compliance, employment/payroll advice.  


Alongside your technical tax acumen, this role is focused on building and maintaining exceptional relationships internally and externally.   You will bring experience of effective influencing skills at Board and Senior Leadership level, as well as externally with the HMRC but equally being able to utilise relationship, communication and collaborations skills with peers and in effective team development.


This role could provide a fantastic opportunity for someone taking their first step into a ‘Head of’ level role, but could be equally of interest to a highly experienced tax specialist.
