We’re looking for a Junior Designer to join our creative team. You will provide creative designs for Wickes’ communication channels to support promotional activity and customer experience.
As part of a high-performing creative team, you will be responsible for improving the customer experience and sales potential through high standards of creative design. We’re looking for a designer who is confident, articulate and keen to add value to a high-profile team. Your responsibilities will include developing creative ideas and producing visual solutions to meet the needs of our communication channels.

We want a switched-on, creative, eager person; who works well across teams and will proactively come up with creative ideas for assets.

What are we looking for in you?

  • You will have excellent communication skills and be able to work in a busy and demanding environment, meeting tight deadlines and managing your workload effectively

  • You will be flexible and adaptive – able to manage multiple streams of activity and prioritise your workload to ensure key project timeframes are met

  • A high level of attention to detail in all aspects of design

  • The ability to work well within a team and solo on projects

  • Being organised with working files on the Google drive system

  • The ability to communicate and showcase creative ideas clearly to the wider teams

  • An in-depth knowledge of current design trends and technique

  • Be aware of commercial changes and have the ability to react quickly and influence the wider teams with your creative steer and expertise

  • Multi-tasker, able to remain calm under the pressure of tight deadlines

  • Resilient, able to accept feedback and move forward

Key skills

  • Lead the creative development of effective, impactful and trend-driven social media content for social platforms that drives clicks, swipe ups and traffic to the website

  • Recognising how to drive engagement and look at ways to push the brand forward in social media

  • Producing quick video edits for multiple channels

  • Work with the Creative Studio Traffic Manager and brief owners to ensure briefs and feedback are delivered on time and drive the Wickes brand forward

  • Creation of concepts/designs to support creative activity, utilising a variety of methods such as storyboarding 

  • Presenting creative solutions to the wider team with relation to the original brief, which ensure we are always looking ahead and keeping up with competitors

  • Upkeep of digital brand guidelines and frameworks 

  • Staying ahead of trends and digital innovations to produce new ideas and content

Required experience

  • Experience in a similar role where your focus was on delivering engaging and inspiring content

  • Must be able to use; Adobe Creative Suite, Premiere Pro, After Effects, Photoshop, Illustrator and InDesign

  • Good experience and understanding of animation, video and image editing

  • Balancing priority work with longer-term projects and team goals 

  • Able to storyboard ideas to convey your response to social briefs

  • Keen creative eye, able to recognise how to drive engagement and look at ways to push the brand forward in social media

  • Keen attention to detail, continually striving to deliver ‘right first time’ creative

  • Understanding digital design across different social media platforms (app, desktop and mobile)

  • Understanding how social content is consumed across multiple platforms and a knowledge of social-specific design requirements (safe zones)

  • Liaising with different departments to action feedback and deliver projects on time

  • Understanding of creative best practice across Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and YouTube
