It is the responsibility of the social media team to make Wickes relevant for the next generation of DIY lovers, bring to life our Showroom ranges and highlight our great offers and discounts to the Trade.

We are excited to share that we’re looking for the next social media superstar to join our Social Media Team for 1 year as part of a Placement Student programme from September 2022. This role is for the TikToker, the Tweeter, the Instagrammer who is ready to put their social media knowledge into practice and generate sales, enquiries and engagement for Wickes. The chosen candidate will get experience in planning, briefing, analysing and reporting across the social media channels, with direct access to our account managers at Facebook, Google, Pinterest, TikTok and more, to further support development. You won’t just be stuck in a social media box either, you’ll need to liaise with the email team to make sure messaging is aligned, run promotions alongside the website team, and come up with creative solutions with our in-house design studio.


The role will be flexible working, with a proposed split of 3-4 days a week in the Watford Support Centre and 1-2 days at home. Your responsibilities:

  

  • Support the social team with the ongoing creation and optimisation of our organic content calendar across all 3 exciting customer propositions: DIY, Showroom and Trade.

  • Come up with ideas that are creative and engaging to put out across our social media platforms: Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, Pinterest and more as they arise.

  • Work with our creative tech partner Automated Creative to test different types of creative to understand what works best with our audience.

  • Analyse and report back to the wider marketing team what is and isn’t working and your recommendations for improving performance.

  • Encourage our customers to share their DIY and Showroom projects with us on social media so that we can champion their images and videos across our marketing channels. This will also involve using our User Generated Content tool Olapic to approve and tag our content to increase our bank of assets.

  • Support the social media team with our influencer marketing campaigns helping to write briefs, liaising with internal stakeholders to provide discounts and products to influencers and sharing learnings from our campaigns.

  • Stay up to date with the latest social media trends and share relevant information with the wider marketing team.

  • We are always open to trying new things, so if you have an idea for a new Facebook Group, a TikTok challenge or a dance for Reels, we want you to share, lead and deliver your ideas during your time here which we will be able to support you with. 


What we are looking for in you: 

  • Undergraduate. Would suit a 3rd year placement student 

  • A true social media native, you post on Instagram Stories, you were the first to download TikTok, you love binge-watching YouTube and you get your news from Twitter.

  • Being creative comes naturally to you, you see something on social media and you immediately want to give it a go - experience with creative software such as Adobe tools is beneficial but not mandatory as we also have an in-house design studio.

  • You question ‘why’ when things go well or not so well.

  • You’re proactive, confident and resilient.

  • Great at writing copy, with meticulous attention to detail 

  • Good analytical skills with the ability to draw insight from data

  • Organised, reliable and responsive.

  • Good team player.

  • Happy to be flexible and get involved in any task where we may need you
